8 Weeks - Course dates are 13th, 20th, 27th January and 10th February (half term) 24th February, 10th, 17th ,24th March This course provides an overview of modern astronomy focussing on recent discoveries and ideas. Discussions cover some basic science to show how we know (or think we know) about the workings and evolution of objects ranging from stars to galaxies to the Big Bang, and prospects for detecting life elsewhere in the Universe. No previous science or maths knowledge is required, but some familiarity with basic astronomy would be helpful. No equipment is required except a notebook and pen. Some observing the night sky with a small telescope will be included if weather permits. |
